On August 13, we brewed our Golden Hour IPA at the RHB East facility. Here’s a selection of memories captured.

Some of the slight tweaks being made to the recipe are:

• A reduction in the amount of first wort hopping
• An increase in the amount of finishing hopping
• We will be adding Summit hops (18% Alpha)
• Our grain and base malt will all be from Great Western Malting Organic Company

We’ve been using a new iPad brewing app called BeerAlchemy to help us plan, organize, and create consistent recipes for all of our beers. We’ll be using this program on brew day.

Today, Kent Moore will be traveling to see our friends at Brew Brothers | Home Brew Products to pick up the supplies for Sunday’s brew. We are excited for a great time of fellowship with friends, perfecting our recipe for Golden Hour IPA, and brewing some outstanding beer!

We recently wrapped up another fantastic brewday, crafting our own Moonless Stout, which is a prominently hopped, alluringly dark  stout with hints of chocolate.  We also bottled the Golden Hour IPA, which we are going to be entering into the Heart of the Valley Homebrew Competition along with some of our Organic Belgian Special.

Other exciting news to announce–we are increasing production capacity! We are so excited and want to share some photos of our new acquisitions; when all is said and done, we will easily be able to brew an entire barrel (31 gallons) of organic malty & hoppy deliciousness!

This first photo is of me inspecting out brew new Blichmann Boilermaker prior to pickup, and the next one is it sitting at its new home at RHB West.  We are going to modify the pictured handmade stand to hold the burner right under the kettle at the perfect height.

This next photo is of our 2 new burners-the top on is 160,000 BTU, and the bottom is 130,000 BTU; these will be connected into the natural gas main, and definitely help heat up the 31 gal quickly!

This final photo is of our new March Pump; the 7.5 GPM will definitely help us, and will be more sanitary and much faster than hand-pouring buckets.

So that’s it for our brief update – there will be more to come as this project develops. Another brewday is coming up, and we have been thinking that as we move toward summer that a big community BBQ (with RHB beer present, of course!) will be in the works; we’ll share more details as the date, time, and events shape up.  Feel free to share any ideas that would help to make it memorable!
